Sorry, I’m late. Today is my wedding anniversary and the day has been hectic. Why in the name of all that is holy we got married so close to Christmas is beyond me, but we did. And it’s pouring down rain and threatening to turn to ice, then snow tomorrow. Wonderful.

Back to the blog:

If you haven’t finished your Christmas shopping yet, here are a couple suggestions that may help.

A gift certificate from Lyrical Press or a copy of my book. lol shhh don’t boo me, a girl has to promote.  Well, a gift certificate is a good idea and the giftee can pick out what she or he wants to read first.

Or if the person is an aspiring author, how about a copy of Faith Bicknell-Brown’s How to Avoid Writer’s Hell.  There are four books in the series. Very informative and a big help to writers.  Every topic imaginable is covered.

And of course, you could always download on a disc a couple of your free read stories complete with cover in a pdf format.  I have a wonderful friend who gives me lots of ideas for stories. So I write them, design a cover and print them out for him to read.  Makes a great gift.

Best Christmas Special Ever!

I won’t be hurt if you haven’t heard of this one. It’s not what you’d call common. I aired about 15 years ago and I don’t think it was ever shown again.

A Wish For Wings That Work stars Opus and Bill from Bloom County. Opus is very unhappy with his status as a flightless bird and he takes it out on the hapless Bill. He gets into a support group with a kiwi (voiced by Robin Williams) whose wife left him for an albatross and a chicken (voiced by Tress McNeill) who thinks she’s a airplane, or possibly an air traffic controller. At the end of his meeting, Opus encounters a cockroach (voiced by Dustin Hoffman) arriving for the cockroach cross dressers in crisis meeting. Opus then becomes an ‘aeronautic vigilante’ by buying a whole bunch of balloons. Bill messes this up by getting his tongue stuck where he was tying the balloons. Finally, Opus resorts to writing Santa for wings that work.

It doesn’t work out quite the way he’d hoped, but it works out the best way possible. The resolution is very satisfying. The comedy is priceless. And the animation? Beautiful. It looks like Bloom County, but better.

What’s your favorite Christmas special? Why?
